The journey has been a long and arduous one, no doubt. Since the inception of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in UNIMAS in 1995 and receiving her fist batch of 29 medical students in 1997, the idea to establish a teaching hospital of UNIMAS, has never faded. The project has been led by many overseers, many of whom have passed on to another ventures. We must thank them for making the footholds and the scaffolds to latch on, as we ascend the hill to reach the top to materialise this dream that many a times seemed impossible. Today, 25 years later, the team is helm by a group of young blood. The team is led by Associate Professor Dr Ehfa binti Bujang Safawi, the Founding Director of UNIMAS Teaching Hospital, who is assisted by Associate Prefessor Dr Juslina Omar and Associate Professor Dr Helmy Hazmi. Working tirelessly behind the scenes are Norlia binti Abdullah Abdul Rahman, Debbie anak Bohan, Natasya Marliana binti Abdul Malik, Safarudin bin Pa’iee and Henry Tening anak Sengeng. Clerical assistance is provided by Nazrini binti Abang Ashari. There are many grim and happy stories that the team faced in their quest to ensure that UNIMAS makes it to this milestone today. It is a tedious task. It is only fair that that their endeavour, blood and sweat, ends sweetly with the UNIMAS Teaching Hospital erected in its place, proud and ready to serve.
